Gina Shaddox

About the artist

Gina Shaddox (she/her) is an illustrator and fiber artist living in North Portland. Her work blends traditional illustration with textile practices, drawing inspiration from DIY craft culture, music scenes, and the handmade aesthetic of community-driven art.

As a knitter and fiber artist, Gina is deeply interested in the tactile side of creativity, how materials like yarn, thread, and fabric can become part of visual storytelling. Her work often carries the spirit of DIY culture: bold, personal, and rooted in the idea that art doesn’t have to be polished to be powerful.

Poster

Gina’s poster brings the DIY spirit of supporter culture to life.

At the center of the design, a pair of hands is actively knitting a scarf that reads “Cherry Bombs.” At the end of the yarn sits a playful character: a ball of yarn styled like the Cherry Bombs mascot Mary T Cherry, complete with attitude and personality. Small details, like tattoos on the knitter’s fingers spelling out “Portland”, add another layer of Portland identity, tying the act of crafting directly to the city’s creative culture.

The poster celebrates the act of making something yourself: a tribute to fans who show their love for a team not just by wearing merch, but by creating it.

Scarf

For the scarf itself, Gina leaned fully into the look and texture of knitted lettering. The design mimics the appearance of yarn stitches forming the words “Cherry Bombs,” turning the scarf into a visual extension of the knitting process shown in the poster. The typography feels tactile and handmade, as if it’s literally been stitched together.

The design embraces Gina’s DIY philosophy, loud, colorful, and unapologetically personal.
